Mark Your Calendars

Get rid of those winter doldrums. Join us for a great night out with a lot of excitement. Camel sponsors - we want all camels 'adopted' by November, and we're taking reservations. We will only sell 24 camels, so if you want one, get it early!

Join us for a great evening of dinner and fun at the third running of the camels. Admission - includes a buffet dinner, soda, water, coffee, draft beer and house wine tickets , cash bar available if you need other drinks. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm, races at 7:40 pm, 50/50 raffles and 'second chance' prizes between races. We expect the festivities to end around 11 pm.

Adopt a camel and decorate it as you wish. Choose a business theme or make it whimsical. Display the camel at your business for the weeks running up to the date of the race. The 2013  theme is Hawaiian!

You must be 21 to attend. Cash bar available.

Thank you to our camel sponsors, door prize donors and all of the participants that made our fourth annual camel race a success. 2012 Best Dressed Camel awards went to (1) Efficient Energy Services, (2) Green Trees Mini Storage, and (3) Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors. The new 'Optimist Choice' Award went to Efficient Energy Services. A Marilyn Monroe type camel, complete with fan to ruffle up the skirt really did it!

Camel Racing is a different kind of millionaires party organized under the State of Michigan's Charitable Gaming regulations. Proceeds go towards Optimist youth programs. Those programs can be viewed at our web site www.BrightonOptimist.org.

Optimist Clubs around the world serve the community's youth. The Brighton club is celebrating its 35th year and has issued tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to the area's youth.

Millionaire Party License  M70719.  Proceeds will be used for youth events and programs.

How Does The Race Work?

Real money is exchanged for 'camel bucks'. Camel bucks are then wagered on your favorite camel. Camels are raced in groups of six. Two large foam dice are thrown against a wall. If the numbers 2 and 4 turn up, camels in slots 2 and 4 move one space ahead. The first camel to reach the tenth space is the 'winner'. Winning odds are computed pari-mutuel style, just like at a horse race. Winners are paid in camel bucks, which can be exchanged for cash at the end of the night.

There will also be a 'Best Decorated Camel' contest. Votes cost $1 and the winner will be announced after the 1st race.
